How it works
One list. Any arena. A fair result you can replay.
Everything a breaker needs to know about the 12 SpotBattles games: how a result is picked, why it is fair, and how to run it on stream.
What SpotBattles is
SpotBattles is a set of free randomizer games for sports card breakers. Add your buyers' names, pick an arena, and an animated pixel art game decides the result live on stream: a winner, a full order, a team for every name or a bracket champion.
There are 12 games, from a wrestling battle royal to a kart race, a rubber duck race, a claw machine and a sumo bracket. Every one works the same way underneath, so once you know one, you know them all. They run in a web browser with nothing to install, and all the art is original.
Three steps
-
Names in
Paste your names, one per line. Pick a length and any options the game has, like the match type or how many picks.
-
Game on
Press START (LAUNCH in Space Survival). Our server makes the draw code that locks in the result right then, and the game plays it out on screen.
-
Results ready
See the result: the winner and the full order, the picks, or who gets each team. Copy the results for chat, download a CSV or replay it.
Fair by design
The animation is the fun part, but it never decides anything. Here is what happens when you run a game.
-
Drawn by our server when you press START
The moment you press START (LAUNCH in Space Survival), your names and settings go to our server. It makes a long random draw code, records the names, settings and time with it, and sends the code back. Nobody types or picks the code, and with no connection there is no race.
-
Worked out before anything moves
The draw code is the seed. From your names and that code, the game works out the whole result before the first frame plays: every place, every pick, every team and every bout.
-
The show is a replay
What you watch plays back a result that is already set. Near misses, crashes, items and bounces are part of the show and never change it.
-
The same chance for every name
No game has skill, favourites or weighted odds. A name only gets more chances if it is on the list more than once.
What never changes the result
Playback speed (1x, 2x or 4x), pausing, sound, fullscreen, STREAM MODE, and the device, browser or screen you use. In eleven of the twelve games the length you pick only changes how long the show runs. In Random Rumble the length is part of the match: it is stored with the draw, and the same names with a different length are a different match, still decided the moment you press START.
Verified draws and replays
Every result comes from a draw code, a long code like R-7K2M9-XTAB4-QW3FZ-8HN2C-5VDTY that our server makes when you press START. It is on screen during the game and on the results, and it is in COPY RESULTS. Think of it as the receipt for your break.
- What happens on START. The game sends your names and settings to our server. The server makes a new random code, stamps the time on its own clock, stores the names, settings and time with the code, and sends the code back. The game works out the whole result from that code and plays it.
- No connection, no race. If the game cannot reach the server, START shows a message and nothing runs. There is no offline draw.
- What viewers should check. Watch the whole race live. The code and its DRAWN time are on screen during the game, and the DRAWN time should match when the race started.
- How to verify. Type or paste a code into the Verify or rewatch box on the home page, press VERIFY / REWATCH in any game, or open the draw's link (COPY LINK on the results). The code's first letter opens the right game.
- What the verify view shows. When it was drawn, to the second, in your time and the server's, plus the game, the mode, the length, every name in order (and the teams in Plinko Drop) and the result, with WATCH REPLAY to see the exact same race again.
- Replays say REPLAY. A replay, from a code, from REPLAY on the results screen or from MY MATCHES, shows REPLAY across the play field for the whole run and on the results. A replay is never a new draw and is never saved as one.
- Settings are the options the game asks for: the length, the match type in Random Rumble, BRACKET or EVERYONE SHOOTS in Shootout, the number of picks in Claw Machine, or your team list in Plinko Drop. They are stored with the draw.
- Old matches. Matches saved before verified draws have a 9 digit seed instead of a code. They still replay from MY MATCHES, marked REPLAY, but they have no draw to verify.
Privacy
Anyone with a draw code can see that draw's names, settings and result. Codes are long and random and there is no public list. Deleting a match from MY MATCHES does not delete its draw. To have a draw removed, use the contact page.
The games
Every game gives one of three kinds of result, the same filters as on the games list. Each game also has its own HOW IT WORKS button on its setup screen with its exact rules.
Rankings
Names are ranked from the winner down to the last one out. Use these for a single winner, a pick order or a full finishing order. Claw Machine can also stop after a set number of picks, and the rest are NOT PICKED.
-
Random Rumble
ELIMINATION
Pixel wrestlers go over the top rope until one is left. Pick RUMBLE, where wrestlers enter over time, or BATTLE ROYAL, where everyone is in the ring from the bell. 2 to 500 names.
-
Kart Race
RANKINGS
Everyone races at once in one big kart race, and the finishing order sets every place. Items and spinouts are for show. 2 to 500 names.
-
Demolition Derby
ELIMINATION
Every car starts in the arena and they ram each other until one is left running, with a final showdown for the win. 2 to 500 names.
-
Draft Lottery
PICK ORDER
Numbered balls leave a lottery drum, counting down from the last pick to pick 1. Every line is one ball, with equal odds. 2 to 500 names.
-
Kaiju City Smash
ELIMINATION
Original giant monsters fight across a city until one is left standing. 2 to 500 names.
-
Survival Island
UP TO 500
Everyone drops onto the island and a storm closes in until one is left standing. Cartoon action: soldiers are tagged out, never hurt. 2 to 500 names.
-
Claw Machine
PICK ORDER
The claw grabs name balls one at a time, and each ball it drops is the next pick. Draw ALL the names or just 1, 3, 5, 10 or your own number; the rest are NOT PICKED. 2 to 500 names.
-
Space Survival
ELIMINATION
Every ship enters an asteroid field and the rocks pick them off until one is left flying. 2 to 500 names.
-
Duck Race
RANKINGS
Every name gets a rubber duck and they all race down a country river at once. The finishing order sets every place, with a photo finish for 1st and 2nd. Fast currents, logs, rocks and buoys are for show. 2 to 500 names.
Team Assignments
Every team on your list goes to one of the names.
-
Plinko Drop
TEAM ASSIGNMENTS
Paste your names and your own teams, and balls drop through a peg board into the team bins until every team is dealt. Everyone gets the same number of teams, and the seed fairly picks who gets one extra. 2 to 500 names and 2 to 500 teams, with at least as many teams as names.
Brackets
Names are drawn into a knockout bracket until one champion is left, and everyone still gets a final place. When the number of names is not a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16 and so on), some names get a first round bye, and who gets one is part of the seeded draw.
-
Shootout
BRACKET
Hockey shootouts decide a knockout BRACKET of 2 to 256 names. Or pick EVERYONE SHOOTS, for 2 to 500 names: everyone shoots each round, and a miss puts you out.
-
Sumo Push
BRACKET
Pixel sumo wrestlers shove it out, one bout per match, until one champion is left. Size and belt colour are only looks. 2 to 256 names.
Names and lengths
- One per line
- Paste or type one name per line. Blank lines are skipped, and each name is cut to 40 characters.
- How many
- 2 to 500 names in most games. Shootout's BRACKET and Sumo Push take 2 to 256. Plinko Drop takes 2 to 500 names and 2 to 500 teams, with at least as many teams as names.
- A name twice
- A name on the list twice gets two spots, like two wrestlers or two balls. Most games number the second one, like Mike (2). Plinko Drop keeps the name as typed and gives it a share of the teams for each spot.
- Length
- Pick 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes (3 is the default), or type a custom time. Random Rumble takes any length up to 60:00.
- Big lists
- Every name needs a moment on screen, so a length too short for your list is raised to the minimum automatically, and the setup screen says why. In Random Rumble, for example, each wrestler needs at least 0.6 seconds, so 500 names need at least 5:00.
- Too long for your list
- In every game but Random Rumble, each list has a longest show, so the setup screen greys out the lengths it cannot fill and brings a longer custom time down to fit, and the show never stalls. Short lists run short: with 2 names most games last about 30 seconds whatever length you pick. Kart Race, Demolition Derby, Kaiju City Smash, Survival Island and Space Survival top out between 4:30 and 5:30 even with 500 names, and Duck Race at 4:00. The setup screen shows the range for your list.
- Pace
- On a big list the early part moves fast, several names at a time, and the last few get the full show.
Streaming and OBS
- STREAM MODE on the setup screen hides the playback controls and the cursor, so only the game is on screen.
- For an OBS browser source, add
?stream=1to the game's address, likehttps://www.spotbattles.com/kart-race/?stream=1. Every game works this way. - Size the browser source at 1920x1080 or 1280x720.
- Sound is optional: turn on SOUND or press M.
- Keys: Ctrl or Cmd + Enter starts, Space pauses, 1, 2 and 4 set the speed, F is fullscreen, M is sound and Esc goes back.
Results
Every game ends on a results screen with the draw code, when it was drawn and COPY LINK, a link anyone can open to verify the draw: the standings, the pick order, the finishing order or the team matchups.
- COPY RESULTSPlain text, ready to paste into your stream chat.
- DOWNLOAD CSVThe full list as a file for any spreadsheet app.
- REPLAYPlays the same result again from the start, marked REPLAY.
Free, with optional accounts
Every game is free: no paywall, no payment and nothing to install. You do not need an account to run a game, replay a draw, or copy and download the results.
Signing in with Google is optional. Signed in, every game you finish in any of the 12 games saves to one MY MATCHES list, which you can open from any game or from your account page. REPLAY there plays a saved game again exactly, and VERIFY opens its draw.
FAQ
How does SpotBattles pick a result?
When you press START, the game sends your names and settings to our server, which makes a long random draw code and records the names, settings and time with it. The game works out the whole result from that code before anything moves, then plays it out as an animation, so what you watch is a replay of a result that is already set. No connection, no race.
Is every name treated the same?
Yes. No game has skill, favourites or weighted odds: every name has the same chance. A name only gets more chances if it is on the list more than once, and then each line counts as its own spot.
Can the speed, the animation or my computer change the result?
No. Playback speed, pausing, sound, fullscreen, STREAM MODE and your device never change the result, and the near misses and crashes on screen are only for show. In every game except Random Rumble the length you pick never changes it either; in Random Rumble the length is one of the match settings.
Can I replay a result?
Yes. A draw code replays exactly the same result on any device. Press REPLAY on the results screen or in MY MATCHES, or enter the code in the Verify or rewatch box on the home page or in VERIFY / REWATCH in any game. A replay says REPLAY on screen and is never a new draw.
How do I verify a draw?
Enter its code in the Verify or rewatch box on the home page or in VERIFY / REWATCH in any game, or open its link. You see when it was drawn, to the second, plus the game, the names in order, the length and the result, and WATCH REPLAY plays the exact same race again.
Can a breaker pick the result?
Not ahead of time: our server makes the code when START is pressed. A breaker could draw more than once off stream, so watch the whole race live and check that the draw time on screen matches when it started.
How many names can I enter?
From 2 to 500 in most games, one per line. Shootout's BRACKET and Sumo Push take 2 to 256, and Plinko Drop needs at least as many teams as names. Blank lines are skipped and each name is cut to 40 characters.
Which game should I pick?
For a full order or a single winner, pick a Rankings game such as Random Rumble, Kart Race or Draft Lottery. To deal teams out to buyers, use Plinko Drop. For a knockout bracket with one champion, use Shootout or Sumo Push.
Can I use it on stream or in OBS?
Yes. Turn on STREAM MODE, or add ?stream=1 to a game's address for an OBS browser source, to hide the playback controls and the cursor. A 1920x1080 or 1280x720 browser source works well. COPY RESULTS gives paste ready text for your stream chat.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It is free: there is no paywall or payment, and nothing to install. You can play, replay a draw and copy or download the results without an account. Signing in with Google is optional: it saves the games you finish in all 12 games to MY MATCHES.
