Demolition Derby
Demolition Derby needs JavaScript. Turn it on to run a derby.
Demolition Derby is a browser demolition derby elimination order randomizer for sports card breakers. Paste the buyers' names, pick a length, and every name gets a pixel art car in one arena. The elimination order sets every spot.
How it works
- Paste names, pick a length, press START DERBY. Every name gets a car, and every car starts in the arena.
- Cars ram each other until one is left running. Early on the wrecks come fast, a pileup at a time on big lists; the last cars go out one by one with the full crash. Wrecks are cleared away, so the field thins out and the cars grow as it does. STANDINGS on the right shows everyone: the cars still running, then the elimination order with each place. TRACK pins up to 3 names you want to follow; pinned cars keep their name tag in the arena.
- Every name has the same chance at every place. There is no skill and no favourite. Before the first hit, the seed shuffles all the names into one elimination order, and the derby only shows it. Hits, dents, smoke and explosions are part of the show and never change the order. The length never changes the order either: the same names and seed finish the same way in a 1 minute derby and a 5 minute derby. The same names, length and seed replay the exact same derby.
- The final showdown: when two cars are left, the camera zooms in for a head on duel. The loser explodes into a wreck in 2nd place and the last car running wins.
Names, lengths and seeds
- Names: 2 to 500, one per line. A name listed twice gets a number and its own car, so every car is told apart.
- Length: 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes (3 is the default), or a custom time up to 60:00. A length too short for the field is raised to the minimum, and a length longer than the field can fill is capped; the setup screen says why.
- Verified draws and replays: every START gets a draw code from our server, shown with its draw time during the derby and on the results. Open the code's link, or enter it with VERIFY / REWATCH, to see when it was drawn and watch the same derby again. REPLAY on the results screen plays the same derby again.
- STREAM MODE, or ?stream=1 in the address for an OBS browser source, hides the playback controls and the cursor.
- Keyboard: Ctrl or Cmd+Enter starts, Space pauses, 1, 2 and 4 set the speed, F is fullscreen, M turns sound on or off, Esc goes back to setup.
