Duck Race
Duck Race needs JavaScript. Turn it on to run a race.
Duck Race is a browser rubber duck race finishing order randomizer for sports card breakers. Paste the buyers' names, pick a length, and every name gets a pixel art duck that races down the river. The finishing order sets every spot.
How it works
- Paste names, pick a length, press START RACE. Every name gets a rubber duck, and every duck races at once.
- The ducks paddle down the river from the green flag to the checkered finish line. They surge on fast currents and bump into logs, rocks and buoys, so the running order changes all race long. On big lists the ducks are smaller and the camera follows the leaders. Colours repeat: the name tag tells you whose duck it is. STANDINGS on the right shows everyone: the ducks already home with their places, then everyone still racing in running order. TRACK pins up to 3 names you want to follow; pinned ducks keep their name tag on the river.
- Every name has the same chance at every place. There is no skill and no favourite. Before the ducks hit the water, the seed shuffles all the names into one finishing order, and the race only shows it. Fast currents, logs, rocks and buoys are part of the show and never change the order. The length never changes the order either: the same names and seed finish the same way in a short race and a long race. The same names, length and seed replay the exact same race.
- The finish: the leading ducks race to the line in slow motion and a photo finish decides 1st and 2nd. The winner gets the crown. The rest of the lead pack crosses one by one, and on big lists the others come home in quick waves while the standings fill in.
Names, lengths and seeds
- Names: 2 to 500, one per line. A name listed twice gets a number and its own duck, so every duck is told apart.
- Length: 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes (3 is the default), or a custom time up to 60:00. A length too short for the field is raised to the minimum, and a length longer than the field can fill is capped; the setup screen says why.
- Verified draws and replays: every START gets a draw code from our server, shown with its draw time during the race and on the results. Open the code's link, or enter it with VERIFY / REWATCH, to see when it was drawn and watch the same race again. REPLAY on the results screen plays the same race again.
- STREAM MODE, or ?stream=1 in the address for an OBS browser source, hides the playback controls and the cursor.
- Keyboard: Ctrl or Cmd+Enter starts, Space pauses, 1, 2 and 4 set the speed, F is fullscreen, M turns sound on or off, Esc goes back to setup.
