Shootout
Shootout needs JavaScript. Turn it on to run a shootout.
Shootout is a browser hockey shootout randomizer for sports card breakers. Paste the buyers' names, pick BRACKET or EVERYONE SHOOTS and a length, and pixel art hockey shootouts play out until one name is left. That name is the winner.
How it works
- Paste names, pick BRACKET or EVERYONE SHOOTS, pick a length, press START SHOOTOUT.
- BRACKET: the seed draws names into a knockout bracket. Each matchup is a shootout: 3 shots each, then sudden death. The opponent plays goal. The winner advances.
- EVERYONE SHOOTS: every name takes one shot per round on the house goalie. Score and you stay in. If everyone scores or everyone misses, the round is replayed. Last one left wins.
- Every shot has the same chance for every name. There is no skill and no favourite. The seed decides the draw, every shot and the finishing order. The same names, length, type and seed replay the exact same shootout, and the length never changes who wins. In a bracket that is not a power of two, some names get a first round bye; who gets a bye is part of the seeded draw.
- Length: early rounds are revealed a page at a time in the side panel; later rounds and the final get every shot animated. The length never changes who wins.
Finishing order
- BRACKET: the champion is 1st and the loser of the final 2nd. Losing in a later round ranks above losing in an earlier round. Within a round, more goals in the losing match rank higher, then fewer goals against, then the lower draw number.
- EVERYONE SHOOTS: the last one left is 1st. Going out in a later round ranks above going out in an earlier round. Within a round, whoever shot later in that round's order ranks higher.
Names, lengths and seeds
- Names: 2 to 256 in a BRACKET, 2 to 500 in EVERYONE SHOOTS, one per line.
- Length: 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes (3 is the default), or a custom time up to 60:00. A length too short for the field is raised to the minimum, and a length longer than the field can fill is capped; the setup screen says why.
- Verified draws and replays: When you press START SHOOTOUT, our server makes a draw code and records the names, settings and time before the shootout runs. The code decides the result. No connection, no shootout. Watch the whole shootout live. The code and its drawn time are on screen; the drawn time should match when the shootout started.
- Press VERIFY / REWATCH and enter a code, or open its link, to see when it was drawn and watch the exact same shootout again. Replays say REPLAY across the screen and are never a new draw. REPLAY on the results screen plays the same shootout again.
- STREAM MODE, or ?stream=1 in the address for an OBS browser source, hides the playback controls and the cursor.
- Keyboard: Ctrl or Cmd+Enter starts, Space pauses, 1, 2 and 4 set the speed, F is fullscreen, M turns sound on or off, Esc goes back to setup.
